The highest selling mobile manufacturer of the world, Samsung has launched the successor to its massively popular Samsung Galaxy S3 unsurprisingly called the Galaxy S4. The company's new flagship is a major improvement over its predecessor and packs in a bunch of cool features. Its fast, its fluid and also works on commands of your gestures. Lets brief you down with what all Galaxy S4 offers.
Design: Remember the S3? Just imagine increasing the display size to a bit and you know what, you've got Galaxy S4. For better or worse, Samsung has opted not to improve much upon the finishing upon the phone. So, if you hate Samsung all-plastic feeling, you better start looking for other option, because you actually have a few.
The fact that device boasts a larger screen and considering the amount of hardware power its hides inside its chassis, you have to appreciate how Samsung still managed to reduce its weight to mere 130g. Now, it isn't the lightest phone around (yes I know, Apple iPhone 5 just 112g) but keeping in mind the dimensions of S4, its surely as light as Samsung could have possibly made it.
So, in short, S4 has similar rounded edges, plastic finish with that physical home screen key right below the display. All so very similar to Galaxy S3. But this time around, the color options have changed. You can get a Galaxy S4 in either 'White Frost' or 'Black Mist' color, which in everyday English are basically White and Black respectively.
Display: Galaxy S4 has a 5-inch full HD 1080p Super AMOLED screen. While it isn't the first full HD display around, its marvelous nevertheless. Color reproduction and saturation is remarkably spot on. Brightness levels have been efficiently tweaked to make sure it feels like the best screen in a smartphone ever.
Though Samsung has managed to produce jaw-dropping screen, its 441 ppi density takes a beating compared to HTC One which sits proudly on the throne of pixel density with 469 ppi. You might be a fan of LCD or retina displays but undoubtedly, Galaxy S4's AMOLED screen will impress you.
Hardware and Camera: S4 is a powerhouse. It has a Exynos 5 Octa-core chip-set with 1.6 GHz quad core Cortex-A15 & quad-core 1.2 GHz processors making it the fastest phone on the planet. Its packs 2GB RAM, all the usual sensors Accelerometer, gyro, proximity, compass, barometer, temperature, humidity and gesture included. It also has a PowerVR SGX 544MP3 GPU to provide seamless HD gaming and playback.
It featueres a 13MP camera at its back with abilities like Dual Shot, Simultaneous HD video and image recording, geo-tagging, touch focus, face and smile detection, image stabilization and HDR. A 2MP front camera capable of full HD recording as well, also offers an interesting feature called Dual Video Call.
The Camera is good enough in day light and produces good images. However, HTC One's Ultra pixel technology and Nokia Lumia 920's Pure View Optics make it look helpless in low light. Still, an average user might not complain that much.
Gesture-based Features: An in-built gesture sensor helps Galaxy S4 do a few interesting tricks. This includes-
1) Smart Pause: If you turn away from the screen while watching a video, it automatically gets paused so that you don't miss any part of the video.
2) Smart Scroll: Browsing the web, or going through your music collection? Why not use Smart Scroll? Swipe your hands over the screen to scroll, just like you would do with your fingers on the screen.
3) Hover Mode: Its similar to Air View found on Note. It gives you a preview of E-mails, images, etc without the need to to touch the screen. A nice litle handy feature you can easily get used to.
NFC and Keyboard: S4 comes with a NFC chip inside and Samsung is trying to make good use of it. It has announced that it will tie-up with VISA to allow S4 users make payments with their phones by using it like a credit card. Also, a whole range of NFC-enabled docks are in the making which Samsung plans to release soon.
Samsung has finally replaced the stock keyboard with best Android has to offer-SwiftKey 4. With its fantastic text prediction abilities, SwiftKey would surely messaging and social networking addicts.
