Improving the performance of your Computer

There's no bigger frustration than seeing your Windows based PC continuously lag while performing even simple tasks. Be it a general user or a professional, this sort of performance let down is something that no likes. Most of the times, its because of the hardware of your system or the way your data and personal files are stored or managed on it. So, is there nothing you can do? Well, cheer up. There are certain easy-to-follow tips to improve the performance of your system. Read on to know'em all

1) Stop unused and unwanted Applications, background tasks: This might seem to be a pretty obvious tips but make no mistake, its actually a pretty important one. No matter how good your system is in terms of hardware specs, its always advisable to stop any unnecessary app or a task running in the background. Task Manager is good enough to do the job, so there's no need of any fancy software. However, you might use one to automatically manage your apps and background processes if you want to.

2) Say goodbye to unnecessary files, multimedia content or shift them: I know it might be really to tough to delete that old Bryan Adam classic or that classic 70's movie but learning to manage them is no rocket science. If you really have a large collection of multimedia content, games, images and videos, etc it is advisable to remove them or at least transfer them to an external Hard drive, DVD or USB sticks. The more free space available on your Hard drive from which the OS boots, the faster it performs, simple as that.

3) Run Defragment and Error Checking on Hard drive(s): There might be certain files on your hard drive which might be causing clashes with the OS or might be slowing down your system. Running Disk fragment and Error Checking can solve the problem. Go to My Computer --->Right Click on your Hard drive---->Select properties--->Defragment ---->Tools to find these options. Error checking might be done once in a few months but De-fragmenting of Hard drives should be done regularly to ensure smooth performance of your PC.

4) Protect your System from Malwares and Viruses: There's nothing more irritating than malwares and viruses on your system. They might cause performance related issues and completely damage your personal data. So, to keep your system safe, ensure you have a good Anti-Virus software on your system. Depending on the usage of your computer, you can opt for a free Home version or a licensed, paid version. However, don't install two Anti-Virus Software simultaneously on your system because that might also cause performance issues.

5)  Say "no" to unwanted Desktop effects and features: If you are experiencing that your OS is putting a lot of pressure on your system, you can try switching off certain effects, 3-D gimmicks,etc. Depending on the Windows version you are using you might find these settings in My Computer---> Properties or Control Panel-----> System Maintenance-----> Performance information-----> Visual effects. Remember, no matter how much these effects might seem pleasing, it isn't necessary that you'll always need them.

The tips I have provided above in general, work for all version of Windows. These tips cannot guarantee 100% performance improvement but they can significantly improve it. Comment below to share your own tips or for any query.
